Nathan Vecht | Playwright and Screenwriter

Nathan Vecht is a Dutch playwright and screenwriter. After earning his Master’s degree in architecture, he made his debut in the theatre as a comedian, winning the Jury and Audience Award at the National Cameretten Comedy Festival. After three years of performing, he exchanged the stage for the typewriter and became a full-time writer.

For Dutch national television, he writes for comedy shows Koefnoen (Dutch version of SNL), Panache (similar to The Daily Show) and the New Year's Eve Speech (comedy version of the State of the Union), amongst others. He just completed writing the first season of a new comedy series that can be described as a cross between The Office and Star Trek. Titled Mission Earth, it tells the story of seven astronauts in a space shuttle searching for a new planet for human kind — and not finding it. The first episode will be broadcasted in January 2015.

For the theatre he wrote a variety of plays, including Cycling For Malawi, Go Vote! and An Honest Man. Most of his plays are contemporary comedies, dealing with political and social issues. His work was selected for the Dutch National Theatre Festival, has been translated and staged in various European countries, and is published by International Theatre & Film Books.

Nathan also hosts an interview show on Dutch public radio and writes radio plays. He works and lives in Amsterdam.
