Mika Almog | Screenwriter, Columnist and Actress

Mika is a screenwriter, director, columnist and actress.

 

Since June 2012, Mika’s had a personal column in Ha’aretz Magazine, in which she publishes short stories on a wide range of personal, political and social topics.  Among them are stories written in the format of a Whatsapp conversation, which have become a huge hit.

 

In addition, she heads an all-female team of six writers who produce a weekly satire column for Ha’aretz Magazine.

 

Mika wrote and executive-produced a long list of Israel’s top TV shows, including It's a Wonderful Country (Israel's equivalent of Saturday Night Live) and Shorts (Israel’s top-rated sketch comedy show).

 

Most recently, Mika created the video So Now What? in which the 91-year-old Former President of Israel, Shimon Peres, goes job-hunting, trying his hand at career paths such as a gas station attendant, pizza delivery man and standup comedian, among others.  The video was launched at an award dinner held by the Atlantic Council in New York, in the presence of such luminaries as President of Mexico Enrique Peña Nieto, Robert De Niro and Quincy Jones. The video instantly went viral, logging over 600,000 hits on YouTube within 10 days of its first airing, and receiving media attention across the globe.

 

Next up is Girls’ Night, a film Mika wrote and will co-direct with award- winning director Hilla Medalia.  Mika will also act in the upcoming film, having rekindled her love of acting after many years spent behind the camera.

 

Mika can currently be seen in the drama VIP, in which she plays the agent of Yehuda Levi, Israel’s biggest star. Both the show and Mika’s performance have won critical acclaim.

 

Mika is a graduate of New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, where she studied acting, and UCLA’s School of Theatre, Film and Television, where she studied filmmaking.

 

She lives in Tel Aviv with her husband, three kids and one cat.
