Danny Cohen

In April 2013, Danny Cohen was appointed Director of BBC Television. His remit includes BBC One, BBC2, BBC3 and BBC4, all of BBC Productions, independent commissioning, BBC Films and the iplayer. The television genres at the BBC that Danny is responsible for include Drama, Comedy, History, Science, Religion, Formats and Entertainment.

 

In October 2010 Danny Cohen was appointed Controller of BBC One, which remains the most watched TV channel in the UK. His commissions for BBC One included Call The Midwife, Last Tango In Halifax, The Village, Undercover Care, The 7.39, Happy Valley and The Syndicate. In 2012, BBC One had a record-breaking year with its largest ever growth in peak share and its first all-hours share growth on record. Forthcoming programmes include series from JK Rowling, Peter Kay and Matt Lucas.

 

From 2007 to 2010, Danny was Controller of BBC Three, during which time the Channel won Non-Terrestrial Channel of The Year at the Edinburgh TV Festival in two years out of three. His commissions for BBC Three included Being Human, Our War, Blood Sweat and Takeaways, Junior Doctors, Him and Her and Russell Howard's Good News. The Channel grew its share of young audiences by 58% in this period.

 

Prior to joining the BBC, Danny was Head of E4 and before that Head of Channel 4 Documentaries. During his time at Channel 4, Danny commissioned Skins, The Inbetweeners, Fonejacker, Supernanny and the documentary strand Cutting Edge. Before becoming Head of E4, he worked in Documentary Commissioning at Channel 4 and between 2000 and 2001 Danny was Factual Commissioning Editor for the launch of E4.
